Do you know how to use ChatGPT? Developed by the Open AI company, ChatGPT has caught the attention of several companies and millions of people around the world. In just two months, from December 2022 to February 2023, it hit the number of 100 million users.

This rapid growth is a record breaker when compared to other digital successes. TikTok, for example, got 100 million users in nine months, while Instagram took two and a half years to achieve that number. ChatGPT offers many features and can be used for different tasks. Check out the article to learn more about it.

What Is ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a natural language AI chatbot. It was developed by the OpenAI company using the generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) architecture to simulate natural human language.

You can make questions to the ChatGPT, and ask it to write essays, lyrics, jokes, and many other things, including writing computer code. The AI tries to give answers as close as possible to how a human would respond. To be able to do that, the ChatGPT was trained with a huge amount of text data. It can engage in conversations about a huge variety of topics from simple subjects to complex ones.

Everyone can access ChatGPT from a computer, all you need is to sign in and just start making questions. It has a free version, and an intuitive interface, which makes it simpler to navigate through the website. You will see a chat box where you can type what you want, and the AI will immediately answer you.

How ChatGPT Works

To be able to write answers as a human being would do, ChatGPT uses a deep learning algorithm. It learns by analyzing an enormous amount of data sources, which include thousands of books, websites, and articles.

ChatGPT identifies and understands the patterns presented in those natural language texts, and becomes able to use the structures of human language. When you make a question to this chatbot, it gives an answer based on the training data it has, as response sources. With more information, AI has more accurate answers.

One of the features that make ChatGPT stand out is the fact that it's capable of giving answers that go beyond yes or no. This is because its algorithm can understand context and meaning, therefore offering more complete explanations.

What Can You Use ChatGPT For

When it comes to how to use ChatGPT, to make the most of it, it's important to get to know the main tasks it can perform. Its capabilities are growing as chatbot technology is enhanced by OpenAI. Some of the main tasks it's used for are:

  • Answering questions;
  • Generating text;
  • Translate text from one language to another;
  • Analyze text and provide insights about the sentiment and tone of speech used in particular pieces of writing;
  • Personalize responses based on user preferences, previous interaction, and other data;
  • Use data analysis and machine learning algorithms to predict trends, and future events;
  • Automate tasks like setting reminders and scheduling appointments;
  • Generating computer code in a variety of programming languages;
  • Summarize texts;
  • Virtual assistant;
  • Customer support;
  • Transcribe spoken language into texts;
  • Language generation, like writing stories and poems;
  • Generate captions for images;
  • Extract relevant information from unstructured data;
  • Paraphrasing.

ChatGPT Limitations

As you can see how to use ChatGPT, it has many functions,  but AI isn't an unlimited source of knowledge. Some things go beyond its language model abilities.

The ChatGPT has access to a vast amount of data, but only what is available online. Therefore it isn't capable of giving accurate answers about unwritten topics or that haven't been published on the internet. Let's take for example indigenous cultures which are based on oral knowledge, ChatGPT won't have enough information to talk about it.

Another thing is, despite being able to answer emotional language, ChatGPT doesn't have emotional intelligence. It doesn't own the ability to feel empathy or any other feeling as humans feel. Also, it can't solve problems as humans, considering that we use emotional intelligence, and personal experiences to find the best solutions, while AI doesn't have those resources.

Another controversial topic about ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence models is their biases. As ChatGPT learns by analyzing data, if the sources are inaccurate or biased, the answers given by it can be biased or inaccurate.

FAQ

Is ChatGPT free to use?

Open AI offers a free version of the ChatGPT, but there is also the premium one, where you get faster response speed and priority access to new features.

Can I use ChatGPT on my smartphone?

Yes, you can access ChatGPT from your smartphone or tablet by using the browser of your preference. The steps to use it are the same as you would do on a computer.

Is my conversation with ChatGPT used for training?

Yes, the AI language model learning process is based on analyzing its human interactions to improve its capabilities. However, ChatGPT states that the user's personal information isn't stored or shared beyond the conversation context.

Does ChatGPT give wrong answers?

ChatGPT gives answers based on the information it has available, so it may commit mistakes if the data sources are inaccurate or incomplete. ChatGPT doesn't have access to information that isn't available online, for example.

What is ChatGPT's Future?

With ChatGPT's rapidly growing popularity, many people wonder what the future holds for this artificial intelligence, and how it can change the way we do things. Once you learn how to use ChatGPT, it's easier to understand how to implement it in your work, for instance, but it doesn't mean human actions become dispensable. It's possible to use AI in your favor.

When you ask ChatGPT about its future, the AI explains that it's expected to grow in natural language processing (NLP) for businesses and organizations. It may be integrated into more devices and platforms to make its interaction with users simpler.
